The Miniature Horse is one of the most adorable horse breeds on the planet. Okay, maybe it is the most adorable breed on the planet. The American Miniature Horse Association says that a Miniature Horse may not stand above 34 inches, while the American Miniature Horse Registry says that a Miniature Horse may not stand above 38 inches. Although this breed is much smaller than other breeds, the same standards of conformation apply. A Miniature Horse should have a well-shaped head, good length of hip, clean neck, and straight legs. Just think of the Miniature Horse as a model of a car; it should look the same as the bigger thing, but still have the same qualities.

Miniature Horses come in every color imaginable. They can be bay, roan, paint, appaloosa, palomino, gray, and so on. The foals will stand between 16 and 22 inches. The foals are tiny enought that one person can pick one up and hold it.

Despite their size, Miniature Horses are a very versatile breed. There is a variety of events that one may show a "Mini" in, from halter, to driving, to halter obstacle. For someone who doesn't want to ride, or is intimidated by larger horses, the Miniature Horse is the perfect solution. Miniature Horses can also be ridden, but only by very small children. Often, "Minis" are seen at carnivals and stock shows giving pony rides out to kids or being used for photographs. If one doesn't want to compete, this breed makes an excellent pet as well. They are also great pets for people who love horses, but lack the strength to work with large horses due to health problems. Did you know that some "Minis" are even used as guides for blind people?

If you are looking for a small horse (this means they cost less to feed, too), the Miniature Horse is a breed that you may want to consider buying in the future.
