Andalusian

The Andalusian is a very elegant breed. This breed originated in Spain. The Andalusian is characterized by a noble head, broad chest, muscular neck, and low tail set. These horses are also often (but not always) characterized by their long, wavy manes and tails. They have high-stepping, energetic gaits. One of these gaits includes the gait paso de andatura, which is an especially high-stepping movement that is often used in parades.

The Andalusian is also said to have an excellent tempermant. They are said to be gentle yet brave. This temperment is what makes the Andalusian such a versatile animal. Although Andalusians are often associated with Dressage, they can be used in a wide variety of events. Also due to their unique temperment, these horses are the perfect breed to use in the bullring to work bulls.

The Andalusian comes in the colors of gray, bay, chestnut, black, or roan, and usually stand from 15 to 16 hands tall. Although we all know this breed as the Andalusian, the Spanish Breeders Association now refers to them as Pura Raza Espanola, or "pure Spanish breed." The Andalusian is considered to be an Iberian breed of horse; Iberian breeds consist of any breeds sharing similar characteristics with the Andalusian (such as the Lusitano).
